LexieLearn Terms and Conditions

1. General
1.1 LexieLearn ("Service") is a learning tool provided by Interlinear Oy ("service provider") that converts text into learning materials. The Service includes:
- Mobile application (iOS/Android)
- Messaging services (WhatsApp/SMS)
- Web-based study materials
1.2 These terms define the conditions related to the use of the Service between the user ("user") and the service provider.
1.3 By using the Service, the user accepts these terms and agrees to comply with them.
2. Right of use
2.1 The service provider grants the user a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the Service according to these terms.
2.2 The right of use is valid until further notice, and the service provider may revoke it if the user violates these terms.
3. Service use
3.1 The Service is intended for personal learning use only.
3.2 Using the Service requires:
For Mobile App:
- A mobile device and internet connection
- Camera access permissions
- Device storage access permissions
For Messaging Services (WhatsApp/SMS):
- A phone number capable of sending/receiving WhatsApp or SMS messages
- Internet connection (for WhatsApp) or cellular service (for SMS)
- Acceptance of these Terms before first use
4. User responsibility for content and copyright compliance
4.1 Complete user responsibility: You are solely and entirely responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to photograph, upload, and process any materials through LexieLearn. By using our service, you represent and warrant that for all content you process:
- You own the copyright to the content, OR
- You have explicit written permission from the copyright holder, OR
- The content is in the public domain, OR
- The content is available under an open license that permits your use, OR
- Your use constitutes fair use or fair dealing under applicable copyright law
Important: LexieLearn cannot and does not determine whether your use of any particular content is acceptable under copyright law. We also cannot help you obtain permission to use copyrighted content. It is always your responsibility to make sure you have the right to use content before processing it with LexieLearn.
4.2 No pre-screening: LexieLearn does not and cannot review, monitor, or verify the copyright status of materials you choose to process. We provide neutral technology tools - you make all decisions about what content to use.
4.3 Educational use requirement You agree to use LexieLearn exclusively for legitimate personal educational purposes or for the educational benefit of your immediate family members or students under your direct supervision.
4.4 Prohibited activities: You may not use LexieLearn to:
- Process copyrighted materials without proper rights or legal justification
- Create materials for commercial distribution or sale
- Systematically process large volumes of copyrighted content
- Share study materials created from copyrighted content unless you have the right to do so
- Use the service in any way that could substitute for purchasing legitimate educational materials
5. User responsibility and platform neutrality
5.1 Your sole responsibility: You acknowledge and agree that you are solely responsible for:
- All content you choose to process with the application
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable copyright laws and regulations
- Any legal consequences arising from your use of copyrighted materials
- The functionality of your device and internet connection
- Understanding and respecting the rights of copyright holders
5.2 Platform neutrality: LexieLearn operates as a neutral technology platform that provides tools for content processing. We do not encourage, facilitate, or participate in copyright infringement. Our service can be used with any text content - the choice of what to process and the legal responsibility for that choice remains entirely with you. LexieLearn cannot review, monitor, or make determinations about the copyright status of user content.
5.3 Prohibited behaviors: You agree not to:
- Use the application for any commercial purposes or systematic content processing
- Attempt to circumvent the application's technical limitations or security measures
- Process content in violation of these terms or applicable law
- Share study materials created from copyrighted content unless you have the right to do so
6. Lexielearn's role and technical limitations
6.1 Processing service only: LexieLearn provides neutral technology that processes user-submitted content to create educational materials such as quizzes, flashcards, and audio. We act solely as a service provider, not as a content curator or copyright compliance monitor.
6.2 Temporary data transmission: LexieLearn temporarily transmits user content to our AI technology partner (OpenAI) solely for processing purposes. We implement technical measures requesting that this data not be retained or used for AI training.
6.3 Content storage policies:
For Mobile App: LexieLearn does not permanently store, access, review, monitor, or redistribute your content. Once processing is complete, generated materials are delivered to your device and we retain no copies.
For Messaging Services: Generated study materials are available via a temporary link for 24 hours only, after which they are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Original images are not stored after processing is complete.
6.4 No copyright monitoring: LexieLearn cannot and does not monitor user content for copyright compliance. We do not make determinations about the legality of your content choices.
7. Content processing and privacy
7.1 User content submitted to the Service:
For Mobile App:
- Is primarily stored on the user's own device
- Is temporarily processed via secure external AI services
- Is transmitted using encryption protocols
- Is not retained by our AI processing partners longer than necessary for service provision
- Is configured with privacy headers requesting opt-out from AI training data
- Remains accessible only to the user
For Messaging Services:
- Is temporarily processed via secure external AI services (Twilio, OpenAI)
- Message content is kept in-memory for maximum 30 minutes for conversational context
- Original images are processed but not permanently stored
- Generated study materials are available for 24 hours via temporary link
- Phone numbers are stored for service delivery and usage tracking
7.2 The service provider collects only essential analytics data for Service operation and non-identifiable performance metrics for service improvement.
8. Messaging Services (WhatsApp/SMS)
8.1 Service Description Users can interact with LexieLearn by sending text messages and photos via WhatsApp or SMS to create study materials without downloading the mobile app.
8.2 Phone Number Identification Your phone number serves as your unique identifier for messaging services. By using the messaging service, you consent to us storing your phone number for service delivery, usage tracking, and enforcing usage limits.
8.3 Free Usage Limits Messaging service users can create up to 10 free study sets. This limit is tracked per phone number to prevent abuse and ensure fair access to the service. After reaching this limit, you must download the mobile app to continue using LexieLearn.
8.4 Temporary Study Materials Study materials created via messaging services are:
- Accessible via a temporary link sent to your phone
- Available for 24 hours only
- Automatically and permanently deleted after expiration
- Not recoverable after deletion
- Not backed up or archived by LexieLearn
8.5 Conversation Data
- Text conversations are kept in-memory for 30 minutes maximum to provide conversational context
- All conversations are automatically deleted after 30 minutes
- We do not permanently store your message content
- Images sent are processed to create study materials but are not permanently stored after processing
- Conversation history cannot be recovered after deletion
8.6 Opt-Out Mechanism You can opt out of messaging services at any time by:
- Sending "NOLEXIE" via WhatsApp or SMS
- This will immediately stop all messages from LexieLearn
- Your phone number will be marked as opted-out in our system
- You can resume service by sending another message (subject to usage limits if previously reached)
- Opting out does not delete previously created study materials until their 24-hour expiration
8.7 Terms Acceptance First-time messaging users must explicitly accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy before using the service. Your acceptance is recorded with a timestamp for compliance purposes.
8.8 Optional Features
- Quiz Reminders: If you choose to receive exam reminders, you consent to us storing your phone number, exam date, and reminder time until the reminder is sent. Reminders are deleted immediately after being sent.
- Language Preferences: We store your language choice (English/Finnish) to provide better service in future interactions.
- These preferences can be deleted by opting out or requesting data deletion via elina.patjas@interlinear.tech
8.9 Third-Party Messaging Platforms LexieLearn uses Twilio for message delivery and media handling. By using messaging services, you acknowledge that:
- Your messages are processed through Twilio's infrastructure
- Twilio's Terms of Service also apply to message delivery
- We are not responsible for message delivery failures due to carrier, platform, or network issues
- You are responsible for any messaging costs charged by your mobile carrier
- We cannot guarantee WhatsApp or SMS platform availability
8.10 Prohibited Use of Messaging Services In addition to general prohibited activities in Section 5, messaging service users must not:
- Share their temporary study links publicly or with unauthorized users
- Attempt to bypass the 10 study set limit through multiple phone numbers
- Use automated systems or bots to interact with the messaging service
- Abuse the opt-out mechanism to harass or spam the service
9. Intellectual property rights
9.1 All intellectual property rights related to the Service belong to the service provider.
9.2 You retain all rights to content you lawfully own in electronic form.
9.3 LexieLearn-generated study materials are derivative of your input content - your rights and responsibilities regarding these materials depend entirely on your rights to the underlying source content.
10. Your legal and financial responsibility
10.1 Complete indemnification: You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold completely harmless LexieLearn, Interlinear Oy, its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees), lawsuits, or legal proceedings arising from:
- Your violation of these terms
- Your use of the service with copyrighted materials
- Any copyright infringement claims related to your content choices
- Your breach of any representation or warranty in these terms
10.2 Acknowledgment of legal risk: You explicitly acknowledge that unauthorized use of copyrighted materials may subject you to:
- Copyright infringement lawsuits
- Significant financial damages and legal fees
- Injunctive relief preventing further use
- Criminal penalties in cases of willful infringement
11. Limitation of liability
11.1 The Service is provided "as is" without any warranties.
11.2 The service provider is not responsible for:
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service
- Preservation or accuracy of user content
- Any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Legal consequences of user content choices
- Copyright compliance or infringement issues
- Message delivery failures or delays in messaging services
- Costs incurred from carrier messaging charges
11.3 Maximum liability cap:
For paid services: In no event shall LexieLearn's total liability exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
For free messaging services: Our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
12. Copyright complaints and takedown procedures
12.1 Notice and takedown: Copyright holders who believe their rights have been infringed may submit a formal takedown notice to elina.patjas@interlinear.tech including:
- Clear identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
- Description of the allegedly infringing material and its location in our service
- Your complete contact information
- A good faith statement that you believe the use is not authorized by the copyright owner
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, made under penalty of perjury
- Your physical or electronic signature
12.2 Investigation and response: We will promptly investigate legitimate complaints and take appropriate action within a reasonable timeframe, which may include content removal requests to users or service termination for violations.
12.3 Repeat infringer policy: LexieLearn is committed to protecting intellectual property rights.
For Mobile App users: We will terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly violate copyright or are the subject of multiple legitimate copyright complaints.
For Messaging Services users: We will block phone numbers of users who repeatedly violate copyright or are the subject of multiple legitimate copyright complaints from accessing the service.
Posting content that violates intellectual property rights is a violation of these terms and may result in immediate service termination.
12.4 Cooperation with authorities: LexieLearn will cooperate fully with legal authorities in investigations of alleged copyright infringement or other illegal activity under applicable Finnish and EU law.
13. Educational best practices and guidance
13.1 Recommended practices: We strongly encourage users to:
- Prioritize public domain and openly licensed educational materials
- Understand fair use limitations and apply them conservatively
- Consider purchasing digital rights for frequently used commercial content
- Consult with educational institutions about materials licensed for student use
- Limit processing to genuinely necessary portions of copyrighted works
13.2 Copyright education: Users are encouraged to educate themselves about copyright law and fair use principles applicable in their jurisdiction.
14. Data security and technical measures
14.1 LexieLearn implements appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect user content during transmission and processing.
14.2 While we employ reasonable security practices, no internet transmission is completely secure. You acknowledge this inherent risk when using our service.
14.3 We will notify users of any data security incidents affecting their personal information in accordance with applicable laws.
15. Service changes and discontinuation
15.1 The service provider reserves the right to:
- Modify these terms with appropriate notice
- Update or change Service features
- Discontinue the Service with reasonable notice to users
15.2 Material changes will be announced through the mobile app, our website, or via message to active messaging service users, with continued use constituting acceptance of updated terms.
16. Applicable law and dispute resolution
16.1 These terms are governed by Finnish law.
16.2 Any disputes will first be addressed through good faith negotiations before pursuing formal legal proceedings.
16.3 Users consent to the jurisdiction of Finnish courts for any legal proceedings related to these terms.

By using LexieLearn, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
